Texas Energy Symposium
How Can Solar Help ERCOT Meet the Peak Challenge?
In the summer of 2011, a heat wave sent electricity demand in Texas soaring. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) had to take emergency measures to prevent brown outs or black outs.
Subsequently, the Brattle Group conducted a study for ERCOT examining alternatives to maintain an adequate reserve margin in time of peak demand. The Brattle Group also conducted a study for the Solar Energy Industries Association on how the implementation of solar could have helped ERCOT manage the peak demand in 2011 and saved Texans more than $500 million.
The Symposium was held on Tuesday, August 28 at the Pearl Stables at Pearl Brewery in San Antonio.
